5 Tips For Making The Most Of Your Wardrobe

In a world of Youtube hauls and designer instagram feeds, it's sometimes easy to feel like your style isn't good enough, or that your clothes are simply a bit boring. We all go through these phases, whether our wardrobes are strictly high street, quirky vintage, or designer heaven. It's easy to get affected by the diversity we see online. Don't get me wrong, I watch the hauls, and my instagram 'collections' is longer than my arm. So it got me thinking about how I can feel better about the contents of my closet, and my personal style in general, without breaking the bank. So I've curated 5 quick and easy pointers to help do just that.

1. SAY NO TO YOUR SAFE PIECES

We've all got them, skinny jeans, those comfy trainers, leather jackets. They're all great wardrobe staples, but it's important to learn to mix it up as much as possible. You don't want to be known as 'that girl that in the leather jacket' now do you? Learn to look past these front runners and delve into the other copious amounts of clothing that you never wear (if you're anything like me).

2. HAVE A PROPER CLEAR OUT

This is something I thought I did a pretty good job of a couple of months back. I filled two big Idea bags, one for Depop (UN: kthlnd03) to get a bit of pocket money for new things I actually need, and one for charity. Then I moved house in June and realised I still have FAR too much, and that's what inspired this post. I have a wardrobe, a rail, and a chest of drawers full of clothes. As well as an additional suitcase that's hidden away and forgotten about until September rolls around, a.k.a my winter wardrobe- which I can't fit into my actual wardrobe.

Tidy wardrobe= a Tidy mind
(for those all important outfit choices).

Point being, I realised I need to start wearing more of the clothes I own, and then maybe I will stop being the serial re-wearer that I was  (I have gotten better the past month, I promise). I also need another clearcut to make said deciding on clothes easier.

3. SOCIAL MEDIA ISN'T REAL LIFE

I can't speak for you, but I know I find myself getting sucked into other people's feeds, which often makes me feel pretty rubbish in comparison. Instagram is a good thing, but we have to take everything we see online with a pinch of salt. Don't get sucked in. We all know people only glorify their lives on social, so we only ever see the best of the best. I'll be the first to admit that I could honestly scroll for days sometimes. And now that 'collections' is part of my life, it's even easier.  I always save great shots and outfits that I love, which is great for inspo and outfit planning. But as I said, don't look too deep, take anything personally, and take a step back to remember, it's only instagram.

4. REMEMBER, IT'S ONLY CLOTHES

I know first hand that it's easy to feel like someone else's style is better than yours simply because they're rocking that Gucci belt or latest dreamy Dior bag. I went into more detail on this in my last post which you can read here, so I'll try not to go on. At the end of the day, whether you wear a killer steal from primark or a £4k bag you got on a trip to Paris, you can always look fab. Just rock it. There's nothing better than someone who is comfortable in their own skin, and the same goes for whatever you're wearing, just do you and if you're happy and comfortable, go with it. And don't let what anyone else is wearing do anything other than inspire you.

5. CONFIDENCE

Running on from number 4 a little, but we all know the girls we see in the street that we notice look fab are the most confident ones, they might be wearing something that you would never pick in a million years, but confidence, and a head held high, is what makes your style. Your personality and aura is a major key (wish I could say that without hearing DJ Khaled) to your style and how you come across.

I hope that you enjoyed breezing over these few pointers, they're little things that I am finding to help me make the most of what I've got and experiment a little bit more with outfits. Let me know if you've got any tips of your own in the comments below or over on twitter & instagram (madeinthe1990s). I'd love to hear from you!
