The One with the Netflix Addiction

It's no secret that I'm a Friends addict. But one thing that tamed me was that my boyfriend Luke never watched it, or showed interest in it, so I just got out of the habit completely. Then 2018 arrived, and out of nowhere the whole ten seasons appeared like a mirage on my TV screen. I don't know how I didn't hear that this was going to happen.. did anyone else know? Luke finally agreed to watch the pilot episode with me on my birthday, and then one thing led to another, and before you know it, Ross and Rachel are on a break, Phoebe's having triplets, and I'm an absolute lost cause again, and so is Luke.

However, after my 2017 binges, I am on the hunt for my next serious show to watch. While Friends is keeping us both busy at the moment, I do need to find something to switch to as soon as Rachel gets off the plane, and they all leave their keys on the counter of Monica's empty apartment. It gets me every time, so no doubt I'll need a swift distraction and a filling for the hole it will leave in my life.

I love Netflix, as I'm sure you can tell by the title of this post, but it is a little bit like ASOS to me, in that there is almost too much on there, and scrolling (and being one half of an incredibly indecisive couple) can often go on for up to an hour with no outcome. Which as you an imagine is no fun for anyone. So I am crying out for help. I need help with what to watch on Netflix. I've written about everything I have liked (and not liked so much) thus far on Netflix (& Amazon Prime here) so you can hopefully give me some good recommendations 🤞

The likes of Mindhunter had be hooked last year, and I was finished with it after less than a week. It's about two FBI agents who travel across the U.S educating police forces on personality traits to look for in order to spot and catch repeat killers. They started conducting a psychological study and analysis alongside their FBI work and interviewed notorious killers across the country and eventually coined the term 'serial killer'. It was really well shot and intriguing to watch. That show was just completely my cup of tea, if you love psychological thrillers and/or murder documentaries (that's not weird at all) then you will love this one as much as I did.

I started with The Sinner, which I got a few episodes into and then kind of just forgot about, I think it was just a little too bizarre for me. If you've watched the start of the series you'll know exactly what I mean. I might power through and see what happens, but we'll see. Another one like this for me was Ozark which I thought would be great, cos, Jason Bateman. The story had real potential, about an accountant who gets into some dodgy money laundering for some v.dangerous people and has to re-locate his life. But unfortunately it was simply one of the least gripping shows I've watched of late. I actually did finish the season, but it took a long time, and I wouldn't particularly recommend it. I think the style of the show didn't help as everything seemed to be dull and grey, there is barely any colour on screen and there's nothing visually interesting to watch, which I think is what really bored me. It was just a bit.. blurgh.

Another one I wasn't particularly crazy about, and I think I'm the only person in the UK to admit to this, but surely I can't be the only one? It's Stranger Things... yes that's 1 & 2! I really did try, I promise. The hype was SO huge around this show that there was really no getting away from it. Everyone I knew was talking raving about it. Don't get me wrong, I love the vibe of the show. The style of cinematography, the costumes, the sets, the soundtrack, and the cast is fab.
But. I. Just. Don't. Get. It.
It didn't grip me, and I must admit, I slept through a high percentage of it because I just couldn't keep my eyes open. Nothing against everyone onboard this bandwagon, I just don't think I'm a sci-fi kinda gal.

13 Reasons Why was another great watch of 2017. It's intense, and pretty hard to watch in parts, but it really opens your eyes to how hard teens have it today. It made me super grateful that technology and social media wasn't how it is today when I was going through school. Bebo and MSN were in full swing, and that was more than enough for me. I don't think I could have dealt with snapchat, the I couldn't even imagine the pressure of instagram while growing up, plus everything else that the kids are doing these days. How old do I sound? The show also really makes you think about how you treat people on a level higher than technology, and how we really need consider peoples feelings in our actions and how we treat them. You never really know what someone else is going through, and we all need to bear that in mind more in our everyday encounters. My mum always used to say to me 'If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all', and it's something that watching this show really makes you live by. If you haven't already then I'd definitely recommend.

Oh, and I almost forgot I'm in the middle of watching the first season of The Crown as well at the moment, which I'm finding really interesting as I'm a bit of a self-confessed geek when it comes to historical things. I was that kid at primary school that was obsessed with World War Two stories. The War Monkey was my particular favourite. Anyway, back to The Crown. If you haven't heard, it's all about the current monarchy in the UK, and the story of how it started and the troubles they've faced throughout Queen Elizabeth II's reign. I'm not quite sure how true everything is on the show so I'm taking it with a pinch of salt so far. But I'm enjoying it! I'm sure I'll report back when I've finished, but Friends is hindering my progression on this one.

Remember to let me know your recommendations in the comments below or on Twitter / Instagram. I'm excited to get binging, and maybe I'll do an update post in a few months.
