Getting to Grips with 2018

Hola! Welcome to my blog circa 2018. This is a year in which Friends is on Netflix, and so it is going to be an incredible year. I've seen, and read, a thousand New Years based posts over the past week or two, and although I haven't yet prepared a thorough one myself, I have felt incredibly inspired about the year ahead. I've opted for the more old school approach, as I usually do, and have been and purchased myself a pretty new notebook for the year ahead, into which I can unload all of the brain waves wizzing around my brain into this book for 2018. I'm such a loser in the way that buying a fresh notepad really motivates me to plan and think of new ideas, just so I can use the new stationary. I don't think I'm alone in that, who isn't a sucker for new stationary? I'm also someone that needs time to process and organise my thoughts and feelings before I can roll my sleeves up and push forward into just getting shit done. Otherwise I find I end up rushing into things that I think I should be doing, with no real plan or thought behind me. I don't do anything properly, or to the best of my ability, and as a result I just end up letting myself down and feeling stressed, and basically just a bit rubbish about myself. So, I'm taking my time, and at the moment I'm still in that phase of writing copious amounts of nonsense down, and from that I can whittle down my thoughts into a more realistic plan for the year that I can get excited about.

There are a few things that will definitely be in my plan for 2018 that I've already been thinking about for a while, so carry on reading if you're interested, or can offer any advice!

One aspect I have got my plan down already (I think) is my budget. My main resolution for 2018, boring I know, but it's to have a proper structured budget, and actually stick to it. Something that has recently come Into my life to help me out on this is my Monzo card. If you haven't heard of them, then I would definitely recommend checking them out as a way to keep track of, and limit your spending. I really think it will play a big part in helping me stick to a weekly budget, fingers crossed! On a bigger picture note, I've just turned 24 years old, and I don't want to spend too many more years of my life renting out someone else house, and thus paying someone else mortgage. It's painful how much us tenants shell out on rent, and while I'm approaching my sixth year of renting, I'm getting pretty tired of wasting so much of my salary. It's a killer, and I'm sure you can all feel me on that one. THUS in 2018 I will save, save and save some more... hopefully it won't be too long before I can pay my own mortgage instead of my jammy landlord.

Another thing I've been thinking about, which should help with the above (not), is to really hone in on my personal style, and bring my wardrobe down to more of a staple wardrobe situation. Then I hope I can consolidate my style to some really key, good quality pieces that will last me seasons upon seasons without me falling out of love with them, or falling apart in the wash. Currently I feel like my wardrobe is a giant overspill of materials that I have accumulated over the years, most of which I never actually want to wear. Other than what I have recently gained in Christmas presents and sales finds... Who else has this wardrobe situation? I don't know why I struggle so much to throw things away. Don't get me wrong, I'm by no means a hoarder, I have gotten rid of multiple bin bags full this year, but yet somehow I have still had to take a trip to IKEA between Christmas and New Year to get some more storage in my life. So yes, my wardrobe is something I need to work on this year. Wish me luck on that one.

If you're interested in my outfit in these shots, this cosy jumper of dreams is a Zara one that I got for Christmas, and it's in the sale now if you fancy a January pick me up. The bag is also Zara, and a Christmas present, and I am also in love. It's so cute! My boots are Zara too (can you spot a theme here?) but they've been around for a pretty long time in my life so they are no longer shop-able, sorry! Similar links are below though 👇

Tomorrow see's the first depressing Monday of the year for me, followed by my first full working week after working only 1 day so far since 22nd December. I can't lie, I'm full-on dreading my 7:15 alarm in the morning, which is a feeling that I bloody hate. I want to try a lot harder this year to somehow become more of a morning person. Someone who wakes up earlier than they need too and enjoys a leisurely cup of coffee in their dressing gown, and catches up on the news or some youtube videos before getting dressed and ready for the day in their own time. Instead of snoozing that alarm until the last possible minute until stressfully darting around the flat getting ready and out the door to just about make it to work on time. But I just don't understand how you can willingly, and happily get out of bed so early on a cold dark morning.. any tips are welcome! Seriously.

Have a great weekend guys, and I'll catch you again next weekend.
