Working Hard or Hardly Working?

We are the generation of workaholics. As I mentioned here, burnout is almost trendy now in a way that previous generations haven't really experienced. Not to say our parents didn't work hard, but the pressure is now so different with the online world. I think it's so easy to think everyone is a workaholic online, as a lot of people post their 'grind' and motivational quotes to let people know that they're doing their best. The impression we want to give everyone about ourselves online is that we are working our little bums off all the time.

Making people think that you're working hard doesn't mean you actually are, does it? You're only going to reach the potential you are so desperately striving for if you put some horse blinkers on and focus on YOU. Your lane is the road to success, so stay in it if that's what you want. You need to do what you do best, because no one else can do you.

Work hard in silence, let your success be your noise.” Frank Ocean

That is one of my favourite quotes, by one of my favourite artists. Frank Ocean is someone I adore because he is so true to his own art. Clearly inspired by a tonne of the greats (all the samples on his albums are pretty clear), but everything is still twisted into something that is so identifiable as Frank. And that quote, is a quote I think about probably on a daily basis. Every time I see someone 'working hard' online, it for some reason, instantly makes me feel a bit sunken, like I'm not doing enough. Which is so silly because why should what someone else is doing affect me directly in any way? I know I probably am doing more than enough. But for some reason it's so natural now to get a bit too consumed in other peoples endeavours. That's why I take a step back on a regular basis and think of this quote. Having little reminders, such as what this quote is to me, is really important to be able to pull yourself up from these (albeit silly) set backs. *Re-read the quote here*.

On another note, I'm very happy with this absolute gem of a purchase I found in H&M recently. These off-white jeans from their conscious collection were perched on the sale rail with a mere £15. What a find! I've seen so many girls rocking off-white mom jeans lately and now completely get the hype, I love them! I think they look so good with a long jumper, or a cropped knit or t-shirt. Very versatile, you'll be seeing much more of these over the upcoming months as I'm sure they're going to be key for my winter wardrobe this year.

I've banged on about my camel coat being back in my life already on my instagram, so I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm really happy about it.

  1. Love this quote - it's so very true!! And those jeans are such a steal. I'd usually dismiss a pair this colour but you've proved me wrong and now I want some!!
